- Efficiently and effectively process data sent from hedge fund managers in various documents sent to us from hedge fund managers and hedge fund data providers;
- Proactively collect and cull information from various hedge fund documents, such as offering memorandums, Excel surveys, and other hedge fund marketing materials to ensure timely updates to our systems;
- Maintain quality of data and databases by ensuring the collection and computation of complete and correct values and in verifying that accurate information is being entered into our hedge fund database;
- Determine KPIs for hedge fund data completeness and drive the timeliness and completeness of hedge fund data;
- Communicate any data issues with the hedge fund relationship management team in Chicago.
- Be responsible for a worldwide database and providers who send data from around the world.
- Suggest process flow improvements, data collection methodology, and other documents to insure complete and accurate hedge fund data.
- Good English reading skills are a top priority, as data analysts must be able to read documents that hedge fund data providers send to Morningstar and then process this information in our database effectively and efficiently. Analysts must be able to recognize different data formats and extract the maximum amount of data available from these documents.
- Good writing skills are also essential, as data analysts will be required to write follow-up e-mails to hedge fund data providers so as to provide missing or late data.
- Candidates should have a strong interest in different investment vehicles, strong analytical and math skills, and the ability to analyze and decipher sometimes dense, legal financial language. Candidates should also have a very strong interest in finance and have the ability to comprehend sometimes complex hedge fund investment strategies. Knowledge of basic hedge fund investment strategies will be very helpful.
- The skills required to be successful in this position include:
- One to two years experience as a data analyst or analyst in the investment industry;
- Strong English verbal and written communication skills;

- Have the ability to work with a high volume of data on a deadline-oriented basis;

- An interest/eagerness to learn the complex structure of numerous investment vehicles;
- Have a basic knowledge of hedge fund investment strategies including the use of derivative securities, short-selling techniques, and the use of leverage in a managed portfolio.
